Quant, Mary

Quant, Mary
   b. 1934, London
   Fashion designer
Mary Quant was one of the most influential British designers in the ‘Swinging Sixties’. Born in 1934 and trained at Goldsmith’s College, Quant opened her Kings Road boutique Bazaar in 1955. Her innovative, youthful fashions were an immediate success and led to Quant opening other stores as well as designing for J.C.Penney in New York in 1962. Quant launched her own wholesale company, Ginger, in 1963 and cosmetics and accessories bearing her daisy logo soon joined her hugely successful fashion range. Quant is associated above all with cheeky mini-skirts and dresses which provided the main fashion image of the mid-1960s.
